Grandma Margit's Julekake  

Bread machine

1- tsp yeast

2- cups bread flour

1 tsp salt

1 Tbs powdered milk

1 Tbs butter

1/3 tsp cardamom

cup sugar

1 cup water (about 80-90 deg F - composed of 1/2 cup scalded milk and 1/2 cup potato water)

1/3 cup citron and raisins mixed

 

Follow your bread machine instructions for automatic mode (mine says yeast first, then all dry ingredients, then water).  Add citron and raisins per machine instructions.  Remove from machine at end and cool.

Alternate method - use manual mode, remove from machine per instructions.  Separate into two rounded loaves.  Let rise until double and bake at 325 deg F until brown.  Brush tops with butter.  My sister likes to braid the two instead of just rounded loaves.
